Controllable Mechanical Diode

Amsted Automotive’s Controllable Mechanical Diode (CMD) offers unmatched efficiency, durability, and seamless operation for internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid, and electric propulsion systems. Many OEMs chose for their best-selling vehicles to use Amsted Automotive’s CMD because they combine the best attributes of traditional Mechanical Diode (MD) technology and selectable one-way clutches (SOWCs).

A CMD is a selectable one-way clutch (SOWC) system that enables active, on-demand engagement and disengagement of torque transfer within propulsion systems.

Key Benefits:

  • Supports high torque density applications.
  • Improves overall system efficiency to increase fuel economy and/or battery range.
  • Requires less packaging space for compact system integration.
  • Features electromechanical or hydraulic actuation for precise engagement and disengagement.
  • Enables full system integration by reducing complexity and improving reliability.
  • Optimized for energy regeneration and power transfer in electrified propulsion systems.
  • Decreased system response time for smooth transitions between driving modes.
  • Aluminum compatibility enables cost savings and mass reduction.

Applications:

  • Shifting Elements
  • Driveline Disconnects
